Supporting Human Creativity in a Changing World

Palimpsest Media is built around a simple belief: stories, games, art, and imagined worlds matter — and the people who create them matter even more.

We are ardent supporters of independent writers, artists, designers, game makers, editors, cartographers, worldbuilders, and creative collaborators. We recognize both the opportunities and the challenges facing creators in today’s environment: shifting publishing models, crowded digital marketplaces, corporate consolidation, new tools, new risks, and the rapid rise of AI-generated content.

In that environment, we want Palimpsest Media to stand for something clear: a creator-friendly publishing platform that respects human craft, transparent collaboration, and fair dealing.

We are a small company, but we bring experience in software development, business operations, publishing infrastructure, digital products, and entrepreneurship. Our goal is to use that experience to help creators spend more time creating — and less time fighting with storefronts, formatting, distribution, technical setup, payment workflows, and the administrative burden of running a creative business alone.

For Independent Creators

If you have a book, game, adventure module, supplement, setting, art collection, or other creative work you want help bringing into the world, we’d love to hear from you.

We are especially interested in projects involving:

  • Fantasy and science fiction

  • Tabletop roleplaying games and supplements

  • Narrative games and interactive fiction

  • Worldbuilding, lore, maps, and setting material

  • Fiction, essays, serial works, and experimental writing

  • Art-forward digital or print products

  • Creator-owned projects seeking a thoughtful publishing partner

You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Some creators need help polishing a nearly finished product. Others need technical, business, formatting, storefront, or distribution support. Others may simply want a conversation about whether a project has a viable path forward.

We cannot take on every project, and we are still building our publishing pipeline, but we are always happy to connect with serious creators who are trying to make something meaningful.

A Creator-Friendly Publishing Platform

We are currently developing open, standard publishing terms that we will release publicly and link to this page in the near future.

Our goal is to make those terms understandable, fair, and practical — especially for creators who do not want to deal with traditional publishing gatekeeping, opaque contracts, unfair terms or revenue share, corporate platforms, or the operational burden of running a full business by themselves.

While our formal terms are still being developed, the principles guiding them are straightforward:

Respect for creators.
Creative work deserves to be treated as real work. We want our collaborations to recognize the time, skill, imagination, and lived experience that human creators bring to the table.

Clear expectations.
Publishing relationships should not depend on vague promises or confusing terms. We want creators to understand what Palimpsest Media does, what the creator controls, how shared revenue works, and what rights are involved. Plain language, fair terms, open communication.

Creator ownership where possible.
We are interested in models that let creators retain meaningful ownership and identity in their work while receiving support with publishing, production, marketing, operations, or distribution. You create something - you own it.

Practical support.
Many creators do not fail because their work lacks value. They struggle because the surrounding business systems are exhausting. We want to help reduce that burden.

Human-centered creativity.
We believe human imagination, judgment, voice, and artistic intention are central to meaningful creative work. We are still developing our formal AI use statement, but our direction is clear: we want to support human creators, not replace them.

Our Position on AI and Creative Work

We recognize that AI tools are now part of the creative and business landscape. We also recognize that their use raises serious questions around authorship, consent, labor, attribution, originality, compensation, and trust.

Palimpsest Media is currently developing a more detailed AI use statement. Until that is published, our working stance is this:

We support tools that help human creators work more effectively, but we do not believe technology should be used to erase, exploit, imitate, or devalue human creative labor.

We are particularly interested in working with artists, writers, and designers who bring distinctive human perspective, taste, and craft to their work. As our policies develop, we intend to be transparent about how AI may or may not be used in our own products, our publishing process, and any collaborations we enter into.

We will clearly label any content that we create or publish that involves the use of AI, and if there’s a choice between a human creator and AI, the choice to us is easy. However, we recognize that some authors have stories to tell but can’t afford art commissions, some game designers have games they want to make but simply don’t have the capacity to manage multiple contractors - and that’s OK. One of our ‘bucket list’ ambitions is to establish a connection hub to help artists meet writers meet designers to fill these needs realistically without having to turn to AI, but in the interim, if you’re using AI and still want to work with us - just be honest, and we’ll be open to what you’ve made. However, we will not accept collaborations that are completely AI-driven at this time.

Future Commission Opportunities

In addition to publishing external creator-owned work, Palimpsest Media will also be developing our own books, games, supplements, settings, and related creative products.

We have more ideas than time, and we expect to work with independent human creators as those projects grow.

Future commission needs may include:

  • Illustration and concept art

  • Cover art and product art

  • Cartography and fantasy maps

  • TTRPG writing and design

  • Adventure writing

  • Editing and proofreading

  • Layout and graphic design

  • Game design and development support

  • Worldbuilding and lore development

  • Marketing copy and launch support

We are not currently hiring for permanent roles, but we expect to post specific commission opportunities as our production needs become clearer. Check back often for updates or sign up for our newsletter to be first to hear about opportunities!

What We’re Looking For

We are most interested in collaborators who are thoughtful, communicative, reliable, and excited about imaginative work.

You do not need to have a massive portfolio, a large audience, or traditional credentials. We care about quality, professionalism, creative voice, and whether the project or collaboration feels like a good fit.

We are especially excited to hear from independent creators who are building strange, sincere, ambitious, playful, literary, nostalgic, experimental, or deeply imagined work.

Reach Out

If you have art, a book, a game, a supplement, or another creative project you’d like help publishing, we’d be happy to hear from you at info@palimpsestmedia.com.

We may not be able to respond to every inquiry immediately, but we welcome thoughtful introductions and look forward to connecting with creators who share our interest in building imaginative worlds with care.
